What a wonderful evening with the Indian Land Women’s Club last Wednesday!  We had so much fun learning how to make our very own sugar scrubs—creating a little self-care to take home and enjoy.

A big thank you to all the wonderful women who came out and joined us! Huge thank you for your donations to the Life House Women’s Shelter.

1. October Events

October 24: Carolina’s Chili Championship  **

This is our major fundraiser of the year, the big kahuna, the main event!  Our voted-upon charity of the fall season is Belair Food Pantry.  They serve over 90 families in the area, and they have always been so grateful for our assistance!  For the chili championship, we will have a booth for the entire day serving chili (Trinity's husband is already planning his recipe!) and more importantly we're raffling multiple gift baskets - we'll have a men's basket, women's basket, and family basket.  We will need all hands on deck for this - people to gather donations, build the baskets, create ridiculous balloon arches in my living room, and of course help serve chili and push raffle tickets day-of. Take a look at this post on Facebook to see what we've done in the past. Consider working as a team to build each individual basket to avoid duplicates.

2. Community Update

The Life House meal was delivered along with all of your donations. Thank you to everyone who participated in our call to action this month and donated non-perishable breakfast and snack foods. If you'd like to volunteer before our November 18th meal delivery, you can learn more here.

In addition to SOAK, our members were able to learn about another local nonprofit named "Kangaroo Kids". Kangaroo Kids CLT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing The Pouch, a one-stop medical notebook that helps parents organize and keep track of their child's important medication information, from medications and appointments to insurance details. Their mission is simple: Help families feel a little more prepared when navigating their child's medical journey.  Learn more & get involved: https://kangarookidsclt.org
